One Of Our Favorite Ways To Cozy Up To The Holidays
Gather with friends for a cozy meal around the fondue pot. Try this classic recipe or create your own. Careful! Tradition says if a man drops his bread in the pot, he must buy the next round of drinks, and a woman must kiss her neighbors.
Cheese Fondue
1/3 lb each of Gruyere, Gouda, Fontina cheeses
2 tsp. cornstarch
1 cup dry white wine
1 clove garlic minced
1 Tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 t Dijon mustard
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
Grate cheese. Combine with cornstarch, tossing thoroughly to coat all pieces.
In large saucepan, bring wine, garlic and lemon juice to simmer over medium-low heat. Slowly add cheese, stirring well. When cheese mixture is melted and smooth, stir in mustard and nutmeg. Pour into fondue pot and serve with hearty bread for dipping, or cubes of apples and pears.
Serve with a dry white wine or champagne!
Merry Maker Tip: Store-bought grated cheese may contain additives which prevent it from melting smoothly. Always grate it yourself. Cheers!
